Strata is a response to the 2023 ISTD Brief: Mapping The World

A hand-bound publication which explores a nuanced view of cities and human infrastructure – not as vertical, two-dimensional areas but as three-dimensional volumes. Starting from the highest satellites to the deepest mines, this perspective allows the reader to discover and recontextualise our understanding of cities and ultimately reflection our historical and environmental impact.

Strata’s design mainly experiments and plays around with verticality. It borrows design elements from various aspects of a verticalized society. This is translated visually through typographic play, visual metaphors and double meanings.

This publication is designed for an audience interested in a deep dive into contemporary geopolitics and cultural analysis. It explores the achievements of verticalized societies but also highlights issues often obscured from a vertical perspective. This is expressed visually through typographic and infographic experimentation.
